Jim has spent his career in private equity. Jim co-founded Aquilo Partners after spending 11 years with JPMorgan and, Hambrecht & Quist, where he was Managing Director and Head of the Equity Private Placement Group. Jim joined Hambrecht & Quist to start the Private Placement Group in 1992. Under his leadership, the group expanded to 34 professionals worldwide and raised over $13 billion of private equity for hundreds of public and private companies. Jim's life science clients have included Aerovance, AgenSys, AlgoRx, Atherogenics, Centene, Corgentech, Gene Logic, GeneSoft, Martek, Myogen, Replidyne, QuatRx and Xenon Genetics.
Jim began his career at Salomon Brothers Inc in the Venture Capital Group, investing in life science and technology companies and working closely with portfolio companies.
Jim served as a Director of the California Pacific Medical Center for a number of years and chaired the Investment Committee overseeing the academic medical center's $350 million endowment. He is a Trustee of the William G. Irwin Charity Foundation.
Jim received his BA (cum laude) from Middlebury College.
